Dr. A. John Vartanian is a nationally recognized facial plastic surgeon and specializes exclusively in advanced plastic surgery of the face. Dr. John Vartanian has been featured in the media for his cutting edge work and specialized knowledge. He also lectures nationally and publishes in scientific literature on various aspects of facial plastic surgery. Dr. Vartanian teaches physicians–in-training at both UCLA and USC medical centers. His extensive training background is a by-product of twelve continuous years of medical training after college. He is one of a select group of surgeons to have completed the prestigious facial plastic surgery fellowship program with Dr. Frank Kamer in Beverly Hills, California. This UCLA-affiliated fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery is highest level of training in facial plastic surgery offered under the auspices of the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Vartanian completed his residency training in head & neck surgery, and internship in general surgery, both at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center.

Biography
Dr. Vartanian was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Southern California. After graduating from Flintridge Preparatory High School in La Canada-Flintridge, he attended the University of California, Irvine where he graduated with honors, earning a Bachelors of Science in Biology with honors. At the University of California, Irvine he won the Excellence in Undergraduate Research Award. With a strong background in research, Dr. Vartanian completed his medical school at the Chicago Medical School. During his rigorous medical school training he continued his scientific research activities resulting in half dozen awards and research grants. He earned a medical degree with honors, as well as a master of science degree in physiology – the science of how the body works. With this impressive academic record, he was accepted to the world-renowned head and neck surgery program at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
During his years at the University of Illinois, Dr. Vartanian won many awards, including the annual resident research awards two years in a row. His dedication to patient care earned Dr. Vartanian an award from the University of Illinois Medical Center for outstanding service to patient care. Numerous published research papers and awards attest to his past and current research activities. He helped develop a virtual reality of model the nose and face, which is used to teach nasal anatomy to doctors in training. His training in Chicago included training with world-renowned facial plastic surgeons like Drs. Eugene Tardy, Dean Toriumi, J. Regan Thomas, Gary Burget, and others.
To attain the highest level of specialization offered in facial plastic surgery, he completed the prestigious fellowship in facial plastic surgery with Dr. Frank Kamer at the Lasky Clinic in Beverly Hills, California. This accredited facial plastic surgery fellowship program, affiliated with UCLA, is one of limited number of fellowships approved by the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery for advanced training in facial plastic surgery. Dr. Vartanian has also completed numerous workshops on the latest surgical, non-surgical, and laser cosmetic enhancement procedures.
Now in private practice, Dr. Vartanian is regularly consulted for his expertise in advanced rhinoplasty and aging face surgery. As a part of his commitment to furthering the science of facial plastic surgery, he offers his services pro bono at both West-LA Veterans Administration Hospital/UCLA and Los Angeles County – USC medical centers, where he performs challenging facial reconstructive surgery cases and lectures on topics aimed at educating doctors in training. He is an assistant clinical professor at the department of surgery, head & neck division at UCLA and a clinical instructor at USC. He was also a co-instructor of the Advance Nasal Diagnosis course presented for three years at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. As a part of his commitment to patient safety, Dr. Vartanian has been a co-investigator in several FDA studies aimed evaluating a new treatment methods for facial wrinkles and fillers. Dr. Vartanian is board-certified and regularly attends educational seminars to keep up to date with the latest medical developments.
